Shabnam Arora Afsah grew up in Delhi and for the past three decades has lived in the US. She received her BA (Hons) and her LLB from Delhi University and then went on to receive an LLM at the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago.

After a brief stint working at the World Bank, she taught Legal Rhetoric at the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, DC. For the past two decades she and her husband, an environmental economist, have been running an international consulting practice in the field of environmental policy and enforcement.

Shabnam got her love for literature from her father who was a professor of English at IIT
Delhi. She began writing at a young age and has published numerous short stories and
journalistic articles. In 2023 she won the San Francisco Press Club’s award for excellence in
journalism. The Ledger of the Gods is her debut novel.
